Scrapping Camping Photos With Walk in the Woods

We went camping last October when the kids had some time off for the CSI Teacher's Convention.  We had never camped at Lake Wenatchee State Park before, so decided to head there.  Besides, it's on the east side of the Cascade mountains, so there was a better chance of not getting rained on.  This is what the first day and a half looked like.
The kids found giant mushrooms growing on the forest floor around the campsite and had a blast chopping them up with the hatchet.  Yes, we made sure there was a rule that you don't pick up the hatchet unless one of the parents is supervising.  I used one of the mushroom photos for the backgrounds on these two opposing pages and brought the opacity down to about 40%.  I love being able to journal directly on the page instead of having to make a journaling box.  That is one of the many benefits of digital scrapping!
And while we were there, we did have to do some exploring.  ;-)  The lake was beautiful and since it was the off-season, hardly anyone was there.  Except the bears.  Yes, I did say the bears.  Apparently right before we left for our trip, a man was mauled next to his cabin which is on the same lake as the campground.  All he did was walk outside.  Scary!  It's a good thing we didn't know about it because I was already on high alert during the night and on our day excursions!

The campground we were at had apparently seen more bear activity also, so they didn't allow any garbage left out overnight, even in the bear-proof cans.  So we taught the kids about making noise on the trails and to and from the bathrooms (which were a good hike away) and how not to walk alone.  I guess I can't blame the bears for being there ... after all, look how gorgeous it is?!
So on these two pages, I used my Woodland Walk DP.  I didn't want to muddy it up too much, since the paper already had a great design, so I just used a couple of strips of color and some Hodgepodge Hardware to decorate.  I think the scenery does the rest.
So, what have you done with your digital scrapping lately?  We'd love to see it!

Happy Birthday to Our Sponsored Child Alfa

Our sponsored son, Alfa, from Indonesia is having a birthday in August.  To get the gift and card to him in time, we need to send this soon!  I'm hoping that the card blesses him so that he knows that he's loved and cared for.  Did you know that a child dies every 5 seconds from malnutrition?  That is so sad and we have the means to change that.  Together we can make a difference.
If you want to help, but don't know of a reputable charity to help through, please go to Compassion's website to see how they operate and what their goals are.  They have a very high rating for accountability.  I love their program and have been a part of it for over 20 years.

Strength and Hope Cancer Research Stamp Set

So sorry for the long silence.  I needed to take a break so that we could take care of some other events in the family.  You know ... that school stuff and the club stuff.  Read on past this to see our fun projects.  In the meantime, I made this card for a Summer Mini Catalog swap.  I really like this Strength and Hope stamp set.  For this card I stamped the Bella Toile background in Pink Pirouette on Pink Pirouette and then highlighted it with White Gel Pen.  The tag is Pretty in Pink and Old Olive and the stamp is again highlighted with White Gel Pen.  The punches at the top are those wonderful 3-step punches.  The top layer is sponged with my Frost White Shimmer Paint and accented with the Basic Pearl.  The butterfly was sponged with Pretty in Pink, Pink Pirouette and Old Olive, stamped two and cut both of them out, then sponged the shimmer paint on the top butterfly.
And this weekend was the big race!  Our boys club from our church (called Cadets) had a large gathering of local Cadet groups and raced their Pinewood Derby cars.  Today, our girls club (GEMS) raced their cars against the boys.  Oh, what a great time we had today!  So this submarine is my son's.  Yes, my husband did "help" with this one.  :-D  But the idea was my son's.
And this was my husband's car.  Yes, it's that delightful lovebug Herbie!  My husband really loves to get into making these cars.  Look at the details!  He did a great job.  Unfortunately, Herbie didn't show us any of his tricks today, so he didn't take first place.  :(
And last, but certainly not least, the state reports and floats for the 4th grade!  My son had Hawaii assigned to him (oh, isn't that a shame?!  :D)  We had alot of fun putting this paper mache islan together.  I was able to use some of my trusty SU! supplies to help complete this, including my Crystal Effects to stick the sand on and my Big Shot to make the lettering.  The waves were made with puff paint and yes, we had to include Lilo and Stitch!

Whew!  It's been a very busy two weeks!  Now, for a little down time.  Right!  Like you're going to believe that one, right?!  Yes, another busy week, but I'm hoping for some stamping time tonight and maybe tomorrow.  In the meantime, I hope you find some fun stamping time and family time.

New Embossing Folder and Punches

See these flowers?  They're my new embossing folder!  I made this card for a swap.  I sponged over the embossed image with Marina Mist ink and also on the edges of the Bashful Blue cardstock.  The happy birthday stamp is from a new set called Pretty Postage and the punch behind it is the new Postage Punch.  Isn't that cute?!  The punches along the bottom that look like a doily are a new triple punch in the mini catalog.  You'll be seeing a lot more from this punch!

Another CAS Birthday

Keeping it sweet and simple ... that's what I like!  And thankfully, this awesome embossing folder is being carried over, even though the Occasions Mini Catalog is no longer available.  Isn't that a fun border for this cake?  The DP is the Paisley Petals from last month's special.  Don't worry ... it was a preview of what's to come in the new Idea Book & Catalog coming out in July.  I used a piece of 1/2" x 6" Cherry Cobbler to punch the Pinking Hearts Border.  The little strip that you're left with was cut up to make the cake stand.  The bottom of the cake stand is the 3/4" x 15/16" oval punch.  The greeting is from my favorite word set, Teeny Tiny Wishes.  After gluing the border to the DP, we used the rounded corner punch to give it a good cake look.  So what CAS cards have you made lately?  I'd love to see them.

Razzleberry Silhouettes

Here's another card from last week's workshop. The stamp set is Pocket Silhouettes and the background is Teahouse.  We colored on the stamp with Razzleberry and Wasabi before punching it out with the 1 3/4" circle punch.  Yes, we did use the Ribbon Border punch again.  I just love that thing!  We also used the stamping off method for the inside of the card.

Baby Blossoms ... So Sad to Say Goodbye

I sure hope this pretty stamp set makes it into the new Idea Book & Catalog.  I love Baby Blossoms.  It makes such gorgeous projects!  This was a project for a workshop last Saturday.  The colors are Marina Mist and Bashful Blue.  The frame behind the scallop was made with the Four Frames stamp set which will be in the new IB&C.

I'll try to get the other two projects posted up this week.  It's been crazy with helping the kids complete some projects.

Have a great week!

Blessings,
Julie
